More Foot-Bollocks
Scotland and England both came third in their qualifying tables, losing out on a place in their final matches. In Scotland's case, they were beaten by a last minute goal by Italy; and in England's case, a late goal by Croatia saw the end of their European dream.
Both teams did admirably well, you could argue.
England, however, suffers from an age old delusion - having once won the World Cup, over 40 years ago - that they are a world class team; and because of this delusion they have sacked yet another manager. Poor old Steve MacLaren. I think he did pretty good, all things considered, but no it just wasn't good enough because "England expects!"
Further north, in a more pragmatic, more realistic country, the Scottish Football Association and virtually every Scotland supporter are praying that they can retain the services of the national football team coach, that he will not be seduced into leaving to manage a shitty, middling team in the English premiership (which will nonetheless probably pay him more than the SFA could ever afford).
It'll be a huge shame for Scotland if they lose their manager, because there's bound to be another Berti Vogts just waiting in the wings, ready to fuck the national side up again. As for England, they should have held onto MacLaren: saved themselves yet another load of upheaval as they search around for yet another manager, in the vain hope that they can prove to themselves that they are anything other than mediocre.
England expects! Come on, stop kidding yourselves on and get real! Brazil can expect, Italy can expect and Germany can expect. England should count its blessings if it ever gets into the last eight.
As for Scotland, well we know to expect the worst!
